Is it seriously the last day of June?? Holy cow! This month just flew by; I'm still having trouble believing half my summer vacation is over. I feel like any moment now I'm just going to blink and it will already be time to go back to school. Noooo!

However, the month of July does look promising. Trae and I will be heading to Seattle for a week, and I'm super stoked! I love traveling to cities I've never been before and seeing what adventures they have to offer. Do you guys have any vacation plans coming up?

A Real Post

Instead of my usual Fancy That Friday post, I wanted to share a bit of my life lately. I know it's considered "blogging taboo" to talk about anything sad or negative, which I totally understand. People don't usually care to hear about others' problems when we're already dealing with so much of our own. I try my best to keep my blog upbeat and light-hearted, but hey, this is also a life blog and nothing was more life-altering than what happened to my family and I last summer.

It all happened so fast. One day I didn't have a care in the world, just enjoying my time off from school. Then the next day I'm suddenly being called to rush to the hospital because something had happened to my cousin, Robbie. A week or so later he passed away due to physical complications, and our lives were forever changed. I had never lost anyone I loved before, even all my grandparents are still alive. Robbie was the most fun-loving, kind, and generous person who could make anyone laugh and feel welcome, so to have someone like him taken away from our lives was a shock to everyone.

Anyway, it's been an entire year since it all happened and a tough year at that. Watching those I care about  suffer over Robbie's passing is the most heart-wrenching thing I've ever experienced. It's a feeling of wanting to do anything possible to make them feel better but knowing nothing would suffice. To commemorate Robbie, the family all got together at the church where we held his funeral and released personalized balloons up into the sky. It was a thoughtful moment between all of us.

I'm not sure where we go from here, or if my family's heartbreak will ever subside. Even I still don't know how to deal with it all, so I kind of just push it aside and focus on other things like school and work. That's not to say I don't think about it every now and again and have a personal moment to myself (a.k.a. cry-fest in my car), but for the most part, I choose not to let my emotions show in that sense. Probably not the best route to take, but I'm new at this, so it's the best I got. I won't be discussing this anymore on the blog after today, I just wanted one post where I can vent about it all and well... just be real.

Sneaky Sneaky

{ Agaci blazer | Old Navy tee | Francesca's skirt | DSW wedges | F21 ring | vintage watch | thrifted necklace | gift clutch }

Oh, the joys of high-low skirts! I love how they give the illusion that my legs begin at my boobs. Then once I change clothes I come back to the reality that I am forever a shorty. I suppose I'm just living a lie... Don't tell anyone!

I found this blazer hiding behind a pile of lacey "unmentionables". Don't know what it was doing there; I suspect some previous shopper must have hidden it to try and save it for future purchasing. Sneaky sneaky ms. mysterious shopper, but I'm onto your ways.

My Own Rules Were Meant to be Broken

{ F21 top, skirt, sandals, & ring | mom's necklace | vintage watch | Target sunnies }

Back in high school, I always made it a point to never wear the same article of clothing twice in one month (as if anyone would notice), so here I am wearing this denim top twice in one week! "Shame on you!" is probably what my 16-year-old self would say, but phooey on her. I love taking a staple piece and remixing it in different ways. You guys don't mind, right?

Romp If You Want To

{ Target romper & wedges | F21 denim top, ring & necklace | Aldo sunnies }

I've always been a fan of rompers; they're like an entire ensemble wrapped in one article of clothing. Top? Check. Bottoms? Check. So simple! The only awkward thing about them is when you need to use the little ladies' room, you basically have to strip naked (which isn't such a bad idea in this Texas heat... Kidding. Kinda). But let's overlook that, deal? Deal.

I just realized today is the last day of spring! Time to break out the summer outfits!

For Dad

This post goes out to my favorite guy in the world! My dad, also known as the man who who stayed up late with me to read Harry Potter when I was eight-years old (thus commencing my obsession with the stories), the man who would check under the bed for me when I swore I heard a scary noise, and the man who showed up at my 5th grade Halloween party dressed as Austin Powers to surprise me (making me the coolest kid in class).

I'm very blessed to have grown up with such a fun and loving father because I know that there are many kids out there who aren't as lucky. So thank you, Dad, for all the laughs, talks, and memories. People always tell me I'm an exact female replica of you, and I take pride in that. If only I had inherited your British accent as well (then I'd be extra cool)... Happy Father's Day!

Another Approach

{ F21 top & turquoise ring | thrifted skirt | mom's belt | GoJane wedges | vintage watch & stone ring }

I feel like it has been ages since I've done an outfit post! Things have been really hectic lately. I finally got a summer job! It's at a restaurant called BJ's Brewhouse, and I got hired as a hostess. I'm very grateful since I have literally no restaurant experience, but it does suck having to wear all black whilst summer has commenced!

This look was kind of thrown together at the last minute as I was being hurried out the door. Back in my middle school days, I would always wear pink and black together, but it was a bit to the extreme (I'm talking black pants and hot pink top, yikes). So I went for another approach with the same like colors, but I think pastel pink and black stripes are a better fit! Hopefully my middle school-self would say the same ;)

My Week through Instagram

 This was such a fun week! On Tuesday, Trae and I drove up to Austin for the Foster the People ("Pumped Up Kicks" anyone?) concert which was amaaaazing. It was like a dance party all night long! I've been replaying their entire CD over and over since Trae got it for me last November, so to hear them finally play live was a dream come true!

Also playing was a British band called The Kooks (love 'em), and there was a surprise performance from Kimbra (the girl from the Gotye music video) as well! She was fantastic! Such a great show. Unfortunately, at one point my legs got tired of standing, so I sat down and was promptly attacked by ants making my ankles swell up to the size of kiwis. Ouch.

How-To | Make a Crop Top

Go Spurs Go

{ DIY shirt; F21 shorts, sandals, & ring; Target belt; vintage watch; mom's pin }

As you can tell by the crappy hem lines, I made this shirt! My hometown basketball team is in the NBA playoffs, so to go out and watch them I wanted to get all decked out in Spurs wear. However, the only shirt I had was huge, so I altered it into a crop top to fit more into my style.

The top goes above the bellybutton, so I recommend wearing high-waist shorts to prevent showing off too much skin. Throw on a different colored belt (who cares if it doesn't match!) and voilĂ ! I'll be sure to share this amazingly easy diy with y'all on Wednesday!

My Week through Instagram

This week, my dad turned 50-years-old! I can't believe it. It seems like he has been in his 40's all my life. Because my dad is English (yes, accent and all), he threw a "Brit-themed BBQ" party in his backyard. There was so much food! I got full just on the appetizers alone! There were also tons of fellow Brits there to support my dad (I swear, he makes friends everywhere he goes), and they were all super nice even though it was tough to make out what they were saying half the time, hehe. Doesn't my dad look like Austin Powers??? lol! And yes, he's wearing a wig!

That last picture is a DIY project I have coming up. It's super easy! Easy as in, you don't even have to know how to sew to do it! I don't know if I'm just lazy or if most DIYs I come across require way too much materials and/or effort. Probably just lazy, ha! Anyway, look forward to this DIY-for-the-lazy coming up very soon! ;)
