While I was in Europe, I found a pair of rip-off Ray Bans somewhere in the Greek Islands; they looked SO real. I bought them for dirt cheap, and everyone thought they were legit. They stuck with me throughout my entire 6 weeks abroad until, I kid you not, the very LAST DAY when I showed up to the Dublin airport and realized they were missing. Such a bummer. I was so stoked to get back to the states and make everyone believe I suddenly became the type of person who could afford Ray Bans. “Europe changed me, y’all, I’m rich now!” Alas, the universe wouldn’t let me go through with it.
Cut to a few weeks ago: my friend picked me up for dinner, and I found these sunglasses (pictured above) under the passenger seat of his car. “Are these yours?” I asked, even though I knew they weren’t his. He shook his head and said he had never seen them before and that I could have them. “Uhhh, are you sure? They’re a very expensive brand.” He shrugged. He shrugged over a pair of Gucci sunglasses. I didn’t fight him on it any longer. So if you’re broke like me but wouldn’t mind having something designer in your life, just dig around your friends’ cars until you find something good. Solid advice, right?
