Here’s the thing: cold weather and I don’t mix. Like, AT ALL. Funny story: one time I went to a Vermont ski resort back in 2014 & I had no idea what people wore for weather below 20 degrees, so I put on like 5 pairs of pants in hopes of staying warm only to come to the realization that jeans do not help in the slightest. After this miserable and embarrassing experience, I did some research on what people who were smarter than me wore in the winter. The item I noticed most on everyones list? Fleece-lined leggings. Um, talk about a GAME CHANGER.
I immediately bought myself a pair, and even though I was feeling major #comfortgoals, I wasn’t a fan of how frumpy they made me look. I felt like I could only pair them with sweaters that reached past my butt in order to be deemed socially acceptable. Most of my sweaters are average length though, so that’s when I got the idea to start layering this skirt over my leggings. It’s a fit & flare style that way it poofs out a bit to hide any lines underneath should I choose to tuck in my sweater (as I did in this outfit post a year ago), OR you can simply have your sweater layered loosely over it (as shown above); it’s cute either way! You can get any color you wish, but I stick with black because it’s slimming + it’s easier to mix & match with different colored sweaters. So there you have it, the two things every girl needs in her winter wardrobe: black fleece-lined leggings and a black fit & flare skirt to make it look like you actually put in effort getting dressed that morning. Obviously there are far more than just two items women need for winter wear, but if you’re like me and don’t like sacrificing comfort for style, this is a simple way to get started.
